Citing East Hartford Student's Story, Betsy DeVos Blasts Public Schools
“The U.S education secretary used a former East Hartford student's experience to spotlight the failure of public schools, particularly those that serve poor and minority students. In comments Wednesday to a House subcommittee on President Donald Trump's proposed budget, Secretary Betsy DeVos spoke of a recent meeting with a young man who described local schools as "nothing more than adult day care ... a dangerous day care." In response, School Superintendent Nathan Quesnel on Thursday invited DeVos to visit East Hartford "and see how a public schools system is actively working to help all kids succeed." DeVos said Trump's spending plan for education favors school choice and "fulfills his promise to devolve power from the federal government and place it in the hands of parents and families..."
