Education Reform: CT Clarifies Plan Before Sending It To The Feds

“After receiving an unfavorable assessment last month, Connecticut decided to make revisions to its comprehensive school accountability plan before resubmitting it to the U.S. Department of Education for final approval. The state is required to devise a school accountability plan under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act, which replaced No Child Left Behind as the national standard for school accountability. Federal officials said the first version of Connecticut’s plan was incomplete and that, among other things, its method of grading schools lacked transparency about the percentage of students performing at grade level…”

Capital Prep Harbor Expansion Approved

“Capital Preparatory Harbor Charter School will expand this fall to a full K-12 school despite the strong opposition of Bridgeport public school officials and teachers who claim it will deepen their fiscal woes. The adult testimony before the state Board of Education on Wednesday was eclipsed by nearly a dozen blazer-clad charter school students from Bridgeport who pleaded one by one that their siblings and cousins get the same chance to experience an environment where failure is not an option. “They want to help these kids before they are broken,” Navaughn Austin, a senior at the school, said of Capital Prep’s push to add grades K-5. Austin, who said he went to Bullard-Havens and Central High before Capital Prep, told the board that the biggest difference at Capital Prep is its expectations. He said he was not allowed to slack off…”

Rob joined GPS in June 2014, and brings his knowledge of graphic design, photography, social media and other digital media to the firm. Before joining the team, Rob worked as a freelancer for various businesses and organizations in the Greater Hartford area including The Open Hearth Association, Charter Oak Cultural Center, Center for Higher Education Retention Excellence (CHERE) and the West Hartford Summer Arts Festival. Kavaler has designed logos, event programs, brochures, newsletters, posters and other collateral materials. He has photographed events including news conferences, public hearings, concerts, theatrical performances and dance showcases. As a creative person he is always looking for a new challenge, enjoys working closely with clients and strives for the best quality in his work. Rob graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University with a B.A. in Visual Arts, with a concentration in Digital Art & Design and a minor in Communication.
